About Me

My photo
What is a PRG?? PRG is something someone started calling me long ago - almost in another lifetime. It stands for "Puerto Rican Goddess." Most days lately, I just feel like a Pretty Regular Girl. So this blog will journal my days as a PRG. Some days that will mean my adventures as a Puerto Rican Goddess; other days I'll just be a Pretty Regular Girl. I hope you can find entertainment in both.

Is It Friday Yet?!

I'm sitting at Chick-Fil-A people watching, enjoying my lunch break.  People are funny.  Just making reference to this oh-so-yummy fast food chain causes people to get uncomfortable.

In case you've been living under a rock, let me enlighten you.  Sometime are the middle of the summer, the CEO of CFA made a statement in an interview regarding gay marriage.  He said that the company supports "the biblical definition of the family unit."  Months later, Facebook feed and Twitter are still, well, a-twitter.

Although I feel very strongly about my own convictions on the subject, I don't feel the need to tout them here.  Suffice it to say I am enjoying a very large order of waffle fries dipped in Chick-Fil-A sauce.

Aaaaaaaanyway, back to the people watching.  I see a mom with four kids here - only one is screaming.  There is an older woman by herself, probably on her lunch break like I am.  A play date is in progress in the kids' area.  A group of young guys came in, followed by a handsome cowboy who walks with a limp.  A mom spending time with her teenage daughter is here, and a good-lookin' Puerto Rican chic in the corner.  (Wait, that's me!)

It's not often that I find myself overly religious, but sometimes I have a gestalt - my "aha moment," as one of my profs at SAGU called it.  Where everything falls into place.  I've really been focusing on trying to be more positive lately.  Being the change I wish to see, if you will.  Most days I remember to read my verse of the day in The Message.

{John 16:33} "I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured deeply at peace.  In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties.  But take heart!  I've conquered the world."

You've probably had someone tell you "be kind to everyone, because you never know what they are going through."   Today's verse confirms that.  It is a godless world.  There will be difficulties...BUT! (Don't you love how the verse doesn't end after promising difficulties?)  He has overcome this nasty, filthy, unfair, godless world.

I don't know about you, but I sure needed that word of reassurance today.  Some days I feel like no one understands and I can't see a way out.  BUT TAKE HEART!

Have You Tried This Scentsy Trick Yet?

Hello blog world!

I'm not sure I've mentioned it here, but a while back I signed up as a Scentsy consultant.  Yep, I decided I didn't have the time or the money to make my own candles anymore, and decided to start selling someone else's.

But Scentsy is not just "someone else."  They are a great company that I have actually had a little bit of history with for a while now.  A few years ago a friend of mine signed up as a consultant, and last year I followed suit.  For more history on Scentsy, visit my website www.MyScentsOfStyle.scentsy.us

Now on to my tip of the day!  Depending on who you ask, there are lots of ways to remove used wax from a Scentsy warmer.  And because the wax doesn't get hot enough to burn, there will be wax left over after the scent is all gone.  My customary method for removing wax is to dump it while it is still warm, then wipe the dish out with a paper towel.  I'm told you can also freeze the dish and the wax will pop out, but I have not had success with that method.

Recently, I saw another reader's tip for removing the used wax.  While the wax is cold, she takes a butter knife (you can use any dull, slightly pointed object - even a spoon) and inserts it into the center of the wax.  Twisting gently, pull the cold wax out of the warmer dish.  I tried it today and  IT WORKS!

See how easy that is!  And here's what the dish looked like when I was done, 4 seconds later:

Obviously if you were changing the scent you would want to still wipe that teeny tiny spot that was left behind.  My scent stayed the same, so I didn't mind.  But isn't that SO much easier than dumping out hot wax, then wiping the rest away?  If you haven't tried it my way, just take my word for it - it is.

OK, now...what other easy tips have I not tried yet?  If you ask Jeremy (and please, don't) I'm not exactly a Domestic Goddess.  I'm sure there are much easier ways to do most of the things I do everyday.  So please...help a girl out!

Test Post

My frustration with my laptop has been increasingly great.  I have been trying unsuccessfully to post for the last several weeks.

Because I am WAY too poor for a new laptop, I am attempting to fix my tech problems by more economical (free) means.  I have installed lots of updates, and I think I may have finally succeeded.

This is a test post to see if what I see is what I want you to see, you see?

I can be trendy, too!

I have always had a problem fitting in with current fashion trends.  It's not that I was oblivious to what the trends were.  It wasn't even that I didn't like the trends.  Rather, I look like a fool when trying to pull off most high-fashion looks.

I guess I'm more of a classic beauty.  Yeah right.  That's just a nice way to say I'm too plain to pull of trendy.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered yesterday that there is ONE fashion trend I can pull off...the infinity scarf!!

I didn't even know I *wanted* to be able to wear an infinity scarf until I saw some in great spring colors yesterday at Old Navy.  I was killing time on my lunch break and decided to stop in.  I picked up a shirt for Jeremy, a white tunic for me, and this awesome pink infinity scarf.

And just because I could, I wore it to work today!  Check me out!

What are the next trends I should be on the lookout for?  And what do you think of my scarf?!  Leave me a comment and let me know!

Banker's Hours & Manicure Mistakes

I started my new job today.  I am officially out of the restaurant business!!  I am now a banker, and so far I really like it.

To celebrate, I took myself to get a manicure on my lunch break.  Hey!  I haven't had a lunch break in 3 years!  So...my manicure was horrible.  He spent so long filing my nails that he was rushed to polish them.  That would have been fine, had I not chosen the most disgusting color.

The color is way too light and much too pink for my skin tone.  Still, it was nice to be able to step away from work for a while and take a break in the middle of the day.

I am looking forward to learning much more in the coming weeks and months.  It's such s great feeling to enjoy going to work again.

Cheers!

I am so excited about the changes taking place in my life right now.  I am in a really great place with a man who is the Love of my Life.  I am about to start a fantastic job.  I'm getting my life in order and for *once* don't have to struggle to make ends meet.

I'm so pleased that I came home tonight and had a champagne cocktail, whipped together by none other than Prince Charming himself.  (For some reason, the pic is posting wrong.  I'll attempt to fix it, but for now it just looks like I'm drunk posting!)

Cheers!  What's going right in your life right now?  Let's celebrate together!
